Nevada City CA Real Estate, Nevada City area and Community Information
Nevada City, California, is the home of approximately 3,000 residents in the Sierra Nevada about 70 miles northeast of the state capital of Sacramento. It is the county seat of Nevada County.
The town was originally called Nevada, which means "snow-covered." It is a direct product of the California Gold Rush of 1849. The so-called "Gold Tunnel" became the area's first gold mine in 1850. The town quickly became the center of gold mining in the area. In 1864, the community was re-named Nevada City to avoid confusion with the name of the surrounding county and the state of Nevada.
