From the rim of the Sacramento Valley to the crest of the Sierra Nevada, this is Nevada County, a land of blue skies, sparking rivers, thick forests, and golden opportunity.

South Fork of the Yuba River. By Phillip Brown.

All across Nevada County, visitors will find unique specialty shops, first-call award-winning restaurants, and a range of lodging from historic hotels to Victorian bed and breakfast inns.

Like small population centers throughout the country, western Nevada County is working on keeping jobs and attracting new jobs.

The area is fortunate to have a tech company history that dates to the 1950s. It began when Charles Litton, Sr. located his company, Litton Engineering Laboratories, in Grass Valley. He then convinced his friend, Dr. D.G.C. Hare to make the move in 1958. Dr. Hare formed Grass Valley Group (GVG), and the company became an important supplier of electronic equipment for the television broadcast industry.

A network of smaller high tech companies located in western Nevada County have direct connections to GVG. Former employees have formed at least seven companies involved in such areas as high definition television. Others have been responsible for local 'branches' of out of town companies such as National Semiconductor. All have helped form a highly skilled workforce.

Western Nevada County is also home to a diverse group of companies involved in manufacturing everything from furniture to motorcycle parts to precision glass products, electro mechanical devices, heating elements, glass blowing equipment, slot machines and kites.

Choosing a new home is a very personal thing. Those considering a move to Nevada County will find that the area has a selection of styles and locations to fit every taste.

Bourne Cottage and Fountain.

Prospective buyers will find everything from vintage miner's cottages to estates with panoramic views. There are Victorians, bungalows, the ultra modern and farm houses, golf communities, equestrian property, and ranches. One can live in town, out in the country, perched on a mountain, or by a lake. And for those who want low maintenance, there are mobile homes and condominiums.

Nevada County has everything!

Real Estate Tips
Animal House >Dog Houses

A family pet often represents a major challenge when a house is being marketed. Your family may call your large dog "Fido"--but your real estate agent calls him "Fang"! This is a sensitive issue for a real estate agent to communicate to sellers.

Even though he is just doing "his job", a dog's bark will sound ferocious to anyone who is knocking at the door. This is usually a good thing, but when your home is on the market, real estate agents will be bringing a lot of strangers to the door. Most agents are concerned about the unpredictability of dogs they don't know. When they are greeted by a barking dog, they may not be willing to enter the house unless the owner is at home. If your dog is confined to part of the house, such as a basement, be sure to put up a sign informing people of that fact. Talk with your real estate agent about the best way to manage your pet while your house is being shown, and make sure that this information is included in the MLS listing.
